A big warm congratulations to Amy Shark who took home the Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition for her monster-smash hit ‘Adore’.
“It’s such an honour to win the 2018 Vanda & Young Song Comp for Adore. I wrote this song in my bedroom and it’s a testament to what just one piece of music can do and how important it is to keep doing what you love. I’m proud to be part of a legacy of songwriters that together have raised over $1 million dollars for Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Australia.” said Amy Shark.
Shark was awarded $50,000 for first place, courtesy of APRA AMCOS, Alberts & BMG, which is the largest first prize sum, in any songwriting competition in the world. Plus scored a handy $5,000 from Show Group which will help towards her touring schedule.
Shark also scored an Honourable Mention for her song ‘Weekends’.
Adore has reached ARIA accredited triple platinum, clocked up over 36 million streams on Spotify and took out #2 spot on Triple J’s Hottest 100 in 2017. Shark is about to release her debut album ‘Love Monster’ out July 13th, with her new pop-anthem ‘I Said Hi’ sitting high on the itunes charts. This week Shark announced her biggest shows to date, playing shows at The Forum, Enmore Theatre, The Tivoli + more and will be heading to Byron in July to play Splendour in the Grass.
Shout out to Hatchie & Gordi who both scored Honourable Mentions for their songs ‘Sure’ & ‘On My Side’.
