Ian James recognised in Queen’s Birthday Honours List

A huge congratulations to Mushroom Music Publishing’s, Ian James, who has received a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his services to Music Publishing and Rights. 

Ian has served as Managing Director of Mushroom Music Publishing for the past 32 years, making him one of the Mushroom Group’s longest standing employees.

During his long tenure Ian has taken Mushroom Music Publishing from a staff of three to Australasia’s largest and most successful independent publishing company.

While Ian James may have stepped down as Managing Director of Mushroom Publishing, he continues as a consultant to the business, as well as continuing on the boards of APRA, AMCOS, the International Confederation of Music Publishers and the Independent Music Publishers ForumIan’s inclusion acknowledges his ‘service to music publishing and rights’ and his time at Mushroom helped put Australian music publishing on the international map.

Over a highly decorated career, Ian made his mark signing some of the world largest and most prestigious catalogues (including Chrysalis, Kobalt, BMG, Reservoir, Big Deal and Downtown) and artists including the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the White Stripes for publishing in Australia and New Zealand.

Under the new role, Ian will provide strategic advice to MMP and remain as Mushroom’s representative on the boards of APRA, AMCOS, the International Confederation of Music Publishers and the Independent Music Publishers Forum.
