Mushroom Group announce leadership transition at Mushroom Music Publishing

  • Mushroom Music Publishing Managing Director of 32 Years, Ian James, to take on Senior Consultant Position
  • Mushroom Music Publishing Head of A&R, Linda Bosidis, to step up as Managing Director from January 2019

On January 1, 2019, Ian James will transition from Managing Director of Mushroom Music Publishing (MMP) to a Senior Consultant position.

Ian has served as Managing Director of MMP for the past 32 years, making him one of the Mushroom Group’s longest standing employees.

During his long tenure Ian has taken MMP from a staff of three to Australasia’s largest and most successful independent publishing company.

Over a highly decorated career, James made his mark signing some of the world largest and most prestigious catalogues (including Chrysalis, Kobalt, BMG, Reservoir, Big Deal and Downtown) and artists including the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the White Stripes for publishing in Australia and New Zealand.

Under the new role, Ian will provide strategic advice to MMP and remain as Mushroom’s representative on the boards of APRA, AMCOS, the International Confederation of Music Publishers and the Independent Music Publishers Forum.

The Mushroom Group’s founder and chairman, Michael Gudinski, commented;  “Ian has made such an incredible contribution to not only Mushroom Music but the music industry as a whole.  Together we have put Mushroom Music on the world map. He is one of the true characters of the industry and we look forward to drawing upon his great knowledge, experience and contacts in the years to come.”

Ian James added; “When I started with Mushroom Music in 1986 it was a fantastic environment. The three exceptional albums that year were the first Crowded House album, Paul Kelly’s Gossip and Hunters and Collectors’ Human Frailty. They’re still iconic.

“Michael was a unique character then and always will be. He has been my mentor, my professor. It’s been an honour to work with the extended Mushroom family and Linda has been a valued member since she started. She will be great. I’m pleased to continue this adventure in a new role.”

Mushroom Group are excited to announce that from January 1, 2019, Linda Bosidis will become the new Managing Director of Mushroom Music Publishing (MMP).

Linda has been with MMP for the past 20 years and moves from her current position as Head of A&R.

One of the most respected A&R executives in the country, Linda has signed the likes of Violent Soho, Julia Jacklin, Gordi,  Jack River, Chet Faker, The Temper Trap and King Gizzard and signed successful joint ventures with UNFD and Ivy League.

The Mushroom Group’s founder and chairman, Michael Gudinski, commented “We are incredibly proud to make this appointment. Linda’s success in A&R speaks for itself but it’s her integrity and ability to get the best out of our staff and writers that will make her a great Mushroom leader. Linda has the respect, ideas and drive to truly modernise Mushroom Music and we look forward to her taking the company, that she has been a part of for twenty years, to even greater heights.”

Linda added; “I’m honoured and excited to be taking on the role of MD at an independent company that I love working for and among people who I love working with. As MD, my focus will be to continue the dedication to our incredible songwriters who are first and foremost the priority, they are and always have been the heart and soul of Mushroom Music.  It will be a privilege to lead the team at Mushroom Music – an inspiring group of proactive, creative thinkers who listen to the individual needs of our writers and encourage meaningful change to enhance the art.

“I want to say a big thank you to Michael and Matt for the opportunity and to Ian James who has always shared his extensive knowledge and encouraged individual growth.”

Linda will continue to work from MMP’s Melbourne office and reports into Mushroom Labels and Publishing COO, Chris Maund.
