Tamil Rogeon

A jazz violinist, composer and producer, Tamil completed a BA in Music Performance at the Victorian College of the Arts in 1997. His special interests in jazz and Brazilian music have been consolidated through study, performance and recording stints in New York and Rio and he currently works in music performance, production, education and composition for Film/TV and dance.

As a founding member of the Melbourne-based ensemble True Live and The Raah Project, Tamil has performed at major arts and rock festivals across the country including Meredith Music Festival, Falls Festival, Big Day Out and the Adelaide and Melbourne international arts festivals. He has also just completed a Big Band, beats and string record called Score. Score is a government funded collaboration project between Tamil and Ryan Ritchie.

Rogeon’s expertise in orchestral and electronic cross-over music has also caught the eye of Red Bull and The Australian Youth Orchestra. In May 2012 he composed an original work incorporating a string orchestra and four turntablists as part of Red Bull’s cultural program. Tamil has worked with an eclectic array of collaborators including Aloe Blacc, Krystle Warren, Orchestra Victoria, The Australian Youth, Orchestra Mercury prize-winning rapper Speech Debelle, French hip-hop artist Fefe and Australian DJ/producer Ennio Styles.
