Brothers Simon, Sam and Nick Nolan and honorary brother Tim grew up in country Victoria, Australia. After years spent bonding over music, they did the natural thing and formed a band. Overseas adventures supplied the final pieces of the puzzle; a lead guitarist and new friend in the form of Melbourne native Dan, and a name nicked from an E.L. Doctorow novel found in a Costa Rican café.
Loon Lake started putting down scrappy demos with one foot in the garage and the other in the sunshine – tracks which were packed with indelible melodies and slacker-pop wit. Early demos Into The Office and the wild-eyed Easy Chairs scored props from the local blogosphere and radio tastemakers.
After releasing their debut EP ‘not just friends’ (featuring single ‘in the summer’) Loon Lake toured with Girls, Kaiser Chiefs, Cage The Elephant and sold out their own run of headline dates. They played revered local festivals Big Day Out, Groovin The Moo, Pyramid Rock Festival & Falls Festival.
While this was all happening around them, Loon Lake spent the whole time writing, inspired by both turbulent personal lives and the unique experience of doing what you love with your best mates by your side.
The latest EP ‘Thirty Three’ is that collection of tracks. Featuring the massive singles ‘Bad To Me’ and ‘Cherry Lips’ which entered the ARIA Australian artist singles chart at No.20 and landed at #29 in the triple j hottest 100.
With their debut album on the way and the first single, ‘On Fire’ from that already on the airwaves, Loon Lake show no signs of slowing down.
