Telstra Road to Discovery is an authentic grassroots talent development program for Australia’s next crop of emerging singer songwriters. It places emphasis on nurturing emerging musical talents; putting them in touch with influential figures in the music industry and taking their music to a wider audience, and increasing their media exposure. Mushroom Marketing have worked closely with Telstra for the last six years on this program, and the official launch for 2014’s Telstra Road to Discovery was held in Sydney on Tuesday 8th July, with special performances from current winners Helen Shanahan (WA) and Christopher Coleman (TAS) with some exciting developments!
Young singer songwriters from ages 15 onwards from regional areas are encouraged to apply for not only the experience of meeting their peers and exposure to great mentoring programs, but also the opportunity to win the talent development prize valued at $100,000 including recording possibilities in Nashville, USA. The program also includes Media training and songwriting guidance from Mushroom’s team including Mushroom Music’s own Creative Manager Bill Page, who has played an integral part with Telstra Road to Discovery for a number of years as judge and mentor.
Previous contestants and winners have included Melody Pool, Mia Wray and Tenielle Neda . All three enjoyed an incredible experience in the Telstra Road to Discovery program, and after impressing Bill Page with their development as songwriters after the program, have since gone on to sign publishing agreements with Mushroom Music. Melody, Tenielle and Mia have had fantastic releases in recent times, including Mia’s debut EP which was only released in the first week of July 2014.
This year Telstra Road to Discovery is all about original music – the focus is on songwriters and their songs. All musical genres are welcome. Underpinning the success of Telstra Road to Discovery is the heart of the program; collaboration mentorship, song writing and music education for independent and unsigned Australian songwriters who are passionate about establishing themselves in the music industry.
It is time for Entrants to make the move and be involved for 2014, and Mushroom Music would encourage all unsigned young songwriters to engage in the program.
