Alies Sluiter

Alies’ credits include composing, performing and producing for feature films, documentaries, television (CNN, BBC, ABC, SBS, Netflix and Foxtel), TVC’s and music, theatre and dance productions. She is also a multi-instrumentalist who has also enjoyed guest lecturing in Film Scoring and Dramaturgy at Central St. Martins University of the Arts (London, UK), Sydney Film School, Flinders University and Elder Conservatorium, University of Adelaide.

Alies has been the recipient of many awards including a 2016 Australian Academy Award Nomination for Best Score and the 2016 South Australian Screen Award Winner for Best Score for Michelle’s Story. In 2015, Alies was awarded the General Sir John Monash Scholarship, Australia’s most prestigious postgraduate scholarship. She has also received the Dame Joan Sutherland Award, been selected as a composer for the Berlinale Talent Campus (Berlin, Germany) and awarded grants from the Australia Council for the Arts, South Australian Arts Council, Australian Film Commission and the Australian Embassy in Berlin. The production Zero Degrees, which Alies musically directed, received the Helpmann Award (Australia) in 2007 and nominations for the Olivier Award, Critics Circle Award and Time Out Award (UK).

As a composer, musical director and violinist she has performed in over 50 countries and 300 cities at venues and festivals such as Champs des Elysees (Paris, France), London Coliseum (London, UK), The Lincoln Centre (New York), New York City Centre (New York, U.S.A), Sydney Opera House (Australia), Chekhov Festival (Moscow, Russia), The Esplanade (Singapore) and the National Centre for Performing Arts (Beijing, China) among many others. She has collaborated with many of todays leading Artists including: Sidi-Larbi Cherkaoui, Akram Khan, Lin Hwai-Min, Meryl Tankard, Sylvie Guillem, Nitin Sawhney, Hugh Jackman, Elena Kats-Chernin, David Helfgott, Ray Chen, Faheem Mazhar, Netsayi Chigwendere, Antony Gormley, Kei Ito and the Shaolin Monks of China.

In 2012, Alies released the critically acclaimed Picture Box Orchestra album. The orchestra performed internationally and nationally at festivals including WOMAdelaide, Bellingen Global Carnival, Nannup Music Festival, Melbourne International Arts Festival and the Adelaide Festival.

She is a professional member of the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television, the Australian Screen Composers Guild and is published by Mushroom Music (Aus) and BMG/Chrysalis in all other territories.
